On our list of Current Income Sources, there is the option to choose your income source type as Social Assistance.
You can submit any one of the following documents:
Bank Statement
To verify a bank statement, it MUST show:
- Your full legal name as stated on the Application
- Recent deposits from any social assistance services (e.g. Ontario Works Assistance, Supplemental Security Income)
- Be dated within the past 30 days
Please note that a screenshot from your mobile banking app will most likely be unverified as they usually do not show your full legal name, and should NOT be uploaded as your proof of income. It is best to upload a full monthly e-statement to show your recent deposits. You can usually download this from your online bank.
Letter of Social Support
To verify a letter of social support, it MUST show:
- Your full legal name as stated on the Application
- The amount you receive from your supporter and how frequently you receive that amount
- The supporting institutions name and contact information (ie. phone number or email)
- Be dated within the past 30 days
Please note that this letter should come from the institution that pays you.
Monthly Support Statement
To verify a monthly support statement, it MUST show:
- Your full legal name as stated on the Application
- Amount you receive from your supporter and how frequently you receive that amount
- Supporter's full name and contact information (ie. phone number or email)
- Be dated within the past 30 days
Please be aware that a current document (dated in the last 30 days) is important to help you show your prospective landlord that you are currently able to pay rent for their property. Since peoples' lives change often, we cannot verify that you are currently receiving income from this source with documentation that is outside of this 30 day range.
